A Different Perspective On The Farm To Table Movement

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

It's a movement that's gaining popularity as the food industry grows bigger, if you have the land starting your own small farm and growing your own fruits and vegetables.  Susie Middleton, who wrote the book Fresh From The Farm, told Tonia's Kitchen that growing your own food is something she's very excited about.  Susie talked with Tonia about her small farm, a 1-acre affair that grows a lot of what her family eats.  Of course, not everyone has an acre, but in her book, Susie talks about the ways that you can start a sub-farm and keep it vibrant.

From Susie's Website:

Part cookbook, part memoirFresh from the Farmchronicles a year in Susie Middleton’s life on a little Martha’s Vineyard farm. With 125 seasonal recipes, 200+ photos, an engaging narrative, and an appendix of garden designs, Fresh From the Farm has it all.
Inspired by the veggies and fruits that Susie and her partner Roy Riley grow (and the eggs from their 500 laying hens!), recipes include desserts like Gingery Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp with Brown Sugar-Pecan Topping and Libby’s Lemon-Blueberry Buckle; main dishes like Spicy Thai Shrimp and Baby Bok Choy Stir-Fry and Winter Green Market Meatloaf; as well as Susie’s signature starters and sides like Grill-Roasted Fingerlings with Rosemary, Lemon, Sea Salt  & Fresh Corn Vinaigrette, and Southwestern Quinoa Salad with Black Beans and Farm Stand Veggies.
