If It Was Good Enough For Elvis...

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

We know it, Elvis Presley loved good food.  Most of it consisted of the comfort variety from Cheeseburgers to Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches.  But he also loved dessert, and one in particular made the King of Rock swoon!  Cookbook author Michael Stern came by Tonia's Kitchen to talk about Whipping Cream Pound Cake. The name tastes as good as the cake actually does!  Michael, who co-wrote Two For The Road, says he takes 3 cups of sugar, two sticks of unsalted butter, 7 large eggs, 3 cups of NON-self rising cake flour that's been sifted before you measure it, one cups of NON-whipped heavy cream and two teaspoons of pure vanilla extract.  Butter and flour a ten-inch tube pan, bring together the sugar and flour with a mixer, until the combo is fluffy.  Add the eggs one at a time, mix together the remaining ingredients, with the exception of the vanilla and beat it all for a full 5 minutes.  Then add the vanilla and place the mix into the tube pan.  Bake in a cold oven that's set to 350 degrees for about an hour and a half.  Stern calls it the ultimate pound cake.  Elvis would probably have agreed!
