How To Make A Cake With Less Calories

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

It's not only possible, but the results can be downright delicious.  Noted pastry chef Buddy Valastro, who's one of the main partners behind Carlo's Bakery, a show prominently featured on TLC's Cake Boss stopped by Tonia's Kitchen to share some easy ideas about how to make that cake just a little better for you.  Buddy told Tonia that instead of butter, it's easy to swap in applesauce or yogurt, as those will still keep your pound cake moist.  He also notes you can cut down on standard flour by taking the half-and-half approach...using 50-percent nut flour (like almond or hazelnut) and the other 50 standard.  But perhaps the biggest calorie slayer of all, the sweetener.  Buddy isn't suggesting sugar-free, but he does say using half sugar and half Whole Earth Baking Blend really cuts the calories down to size. And he promises you won't miss a thing in the taste department.
