The first thing your guests will notice about these cookies, they're colorful! And then they'll say how delicious the cookies are. Rachael Ray Everyday Executive Food Editor Nina Elder stopped by Tonia's Kitchen to talk about their Soft Sugar Cookies. Nina told Tonia they decorate them in green, red and blue, by rolling them in colored sugar. They're a very real way to tell that Christmas is coming!
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 ⁄2 tsp. salt
1 ⁄4 tsp. baking soda
11 ⁄2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 ⁄4 cup sour cream
In a medium bowl, whisk the first 4 ingredients. In a large bowl using an electric mixer on medium-high, beat the butter until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the sugar; beat to blend. Beat in the egg and vanilla, then the sour cream. Add the flour mixture; beat on low until just blended. Halve the dough; shape into disks. Wrap in plastic and chill until firm, 11 /2 to 2 hours. 2. Preheat the oven to 375ยบ. On a floured surface, roll out 1 dough disk about 1 /8 inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutters; divide between two large parchment-lined baking sheets, spacing 1 inch apart. Re-roll scraps; cut out cookies. Repeat with the remaining dough. 3.
