Go Beyond The Apple Pie

Apples make for a very delicious dessert.  You're probably thinking apple pie, but there's so much more that those red treats can do for your dessert platter!   Michelle Scicolone, who wrote the cookbook The Italian Slow-Cooker, told Tonia's Kitchen about her recipe for Baked Apples With Apricot Stuffing. Michelle starts with cored golden delicious apples, dried chopped apricots and a half cup of golden raisins. Mix the apricots and the raisins together and stuff the apples.  Then place it all in a slow cooker, sprinkle the apples with sugar and add red wine (or orange juice if this for a younger audience) along with lemon zest. Cook for about 3 hours and serve with yogurt or whipped cream.  You might just forget all about the pie!
