So How Exactly do you Cook Pumpkin?

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

We're very glad you asked! First, it comes down to selecting the pumpkin itself. When you choose a pumpkin to use for puree, it's important to remember, bigger isn't always better, in fact smaller is much more preferable.  Noted food journalist Kristina Vanni told Tonia's Kitchen it's important to use a pumpkin no more than 2 or 3 pounds, simply because the smaller, the sweeter!  After selecting the pumpkin, Kristina, washes it, cuts it into big chunks, removes but saves the seeds and she says, cooks it in the microwave.  To properly cook the pumpkin in your microwave, Kristina recommends preparing it in a 1/4 inch of water, and heat it 5 minutes per pound.  Then your pumpkin will be ready for pureeing.
